Dean, faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, Egerton University visits- Nigeria
As part of the on-going efforts to improve inter-regional and inter-institutional collaborations through effective linkages across Africa, Prof. Charles Muleke, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, Egerton University, Kenya visited Nigeria from 8th to 19th December, 2015. Professor Muleke’s visit to Nigeria is part of the academic exchange programme under the auspices of DAIRYCHAIN programme.
During the 12 day visit, he visited Obafemi Awolowo University, department of Animal Sciences, Unversity of Ibadan, faculty of Veterinary, College of Veterinary Medicine, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan and Institute for Agricultural Research and Training, Ibadan.
He held seminar presentations in all the universities visited, consultations with Faculty staff and students and as well as visited touristic sites in southwestern Nigeria and exposure to some social events in the Nigerian style.
Through the seminar presentations and consultations with Faculty members across all the three Universities, some areas of possible collaborations were discussed and included the following: (a) opportunities for staff and student academic exchange visits, (b) curricular harmonization and offering joint programmes in Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, (c) collaborate on cross-cutting issues such as environment, climate change, biotechnology, biodiversity, etc, (d) joint proposal writing and competition for mega-grants on themes related to capacity building.
The visit further strengthened inter-institutional and inter-regional academic cooperation and collaboration across Africa.
